The Starting Point for the Green Business

Regardless of the universal use of Green to describe everything of environmental value, Green is primarily concerned with the health impact of what we do. If our actions are harmful to health, like spraying pesticides throughout the building, it is un-Green. If your company reduces, the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that would be Green.

In your first session, we are going to work on the Indoor Air Quality of your facility, and that means we want to clean up the air with the same urgency that the EPA takes to the outdoor air quality. Be aware that Americans spend as much as 90% of their time indoors, and the EPA has said that Indoor Air Quality can be three to five times worse than the outdoor air. Like fish in the tank living in constant pollution, the immune system can only protect our health so long.

In the end, Indoor Air Quality impacts the bottom line of every company due to increased medical claims, rising premiums, more sick days, headaches and fatigue, and eventual chronic illnesses among company employees. The human savings to a company has a monetary value. If there are other savings of energy, water, or supplies; they are still not as important as the health of the company workers.

Indoor Air Quality

It may come as news to you, but the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is the health barometer of your home, school, or office. Like fish in a tank, we swim about in an invisible pool of toxins, pollutants, and noxious ingredients. We should already know that carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless, but it can make you sick and even kill you if you breathe it long enough. This is one of hundreds of pollutants in the air that are gradually poisoning each of us.

Our first stage in Greening your building is to work on the contributing factors to the air that are common to all in the office. Do not be shocked to discover that your air is worse than you think. Years and years of accumulated ingredients create a “Bioaccumulation” of unfriendly pollutants in most buildings.

In a careful review, you can establish a baseline by having Emerald Green Consulting complete an IAQ, CO2, and pollutant survey. Once you get the report, you can then track the success of your Green progress. Most facilities are not as Green as they think. To be Green, you must insist on Green services.
